Occupant Safety
Slow Down
In 2020, there were 246,752 crashes involving motor vehicles in Illinois. Injury crashes accounted for 21.1% of these crashes (52,090), while fatal crashes accounted for less than 1.0% (1,088). Crashes involving speed accounted for 31.9% of total crashes, 44.9% of fatal crashes and 37.3% of injury crashes.
Buckle Up
Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for people aged 1-54 in the United States. Wearing seat belts and properly buckling children into age and size appropriate car seats can reduce the risk of serious injury and death in a crash by at least half.
